DIY Asymmetrical Top

It's great to finally be back to blogging! I've been gone for about a month and a half, but trust me, I've been doing things. I've been doing the usual, from sewing, designing, and preparing for my senior year of high school and looking at colleges. Life is crazy, but a good crazy. Might as well start my first posts back with some DIY's, right?!

I have decided to design a two piece set, consisting of an asymmetrical top and some high waisted shorts.

Here are the patterns I used for this top:

Front pattern piece. 1 inch seam allowance, but 1/2 on neckline and arms.

Asymmetrical pattern piece for front of the top. 1 inch seam allowance around except neckline and arm holes are 1/2.

Front and asymmetrical pattern pieces put together.

As you can see, the left shoulder side of the asymmetrical piece is about half of the regular shoulder, so keep that in mind when making your pattern.

Back pattern piece. 1 inch seam allowance on the diagonal side, except the right side, neckline, and arm hole is 1/2.

When cutting out your fabric for the back piece (especially if you're using lace) make sure you flip your pattern over so your pieces will match up once you sew it together. Here's a little visual to see what I mean:

Fabric was provided by the wonderful Fabric Wholesale Direct, so check them out @ http://www.fabricwholesaledirect.com/

Their fabrics are high quality and reasonably priced. Here in DTLA at the Fabric/Garment district, I couldn't even find good, cheap neoprene, so I was very happy to see that Fabric wholesale direct had it at an amazing cost. The guipure lace I used is absolutely GORGEOUS, and it came in so many different colors, but of course knowing me, I chose black.

If you would like to use the fabrics I have used in the video, here are the links to them:
